The National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU) announces the integration of Total HIPAA Compliance’s HIPAA Privacy and Security Training 2.0 Certification in NAHU’s Online Learning Institute. Completion of the training will earn agents and brokers three (3) CE credits and recognition as a part of NAHU’s Certification program. This comprehensive online training for HIPAA compliance meets Health and Human Services (HHS) requirements for agents and brokers who sell health, dental, vision or long-term care insurance.
“Health and Human Services is already actively auditing healthcare providers and business associates (insurance agents), and levying major fines for HIPAA non-compliance. Completing Total HIPAA’s training helps prepare agents and demonstrates their efforts to comply with these rules,” commented Jan Karn, President of Total HIPAA.
The comprehensive modules cover both Privacy and Security aspects of the Rules. The training is customized for insurance agents, with scenarios highlighting common HIPAA pitfalls—how to avoid them and recommendations on how to respond if you are audited. In addition to HIPAA, the training materials include guidance on Gramm-Leach-Bliley and Personally Identifiable Information (PII) as defined in the State and Federally Facilitated Marketplaces.
David C. Smith, a nationally recognized HIPAA and benefits expert, hosts a video tour of a typical agency and discusses HIPAA requirements as they apply to each position in the company.
