Total HIPAA also announced the release of its updated HIPAA 3.0 Leader and Workforce Training for Agents/Brokers. The online training incorporates recent clarifications on HIPAA from Health and Human Services (HHS), with an expanded focus on new security and technical issues facing agencies.
“In discussion with users, we discovered that most agencies don’t have time or resources to complete all the required HIPAA documentation. Our updated documentation process and training enhances this service,” states Jason Karn, Chief Compliance Officer, Total HIPAA.
Total HIPAA offers two different levels of training – Leader and WorkForce.The Leader training is for those in your agency who will be in charge of creating Policies and Procedures, sales of insurance products, and/or implement and supervise the HIPAA Rules. WorkForce training is for staff who touch Protected Health Information, but do not need to guide the creation of a compliance program.
The training is filled with practical suggestions and is a great way to make sure your staff understands their HIPAA responsibilities. Training topics included Privacy, Security, Penalties, Breach, Electronic Information Protection, and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Trainees can stop and start at any time during the training process. WorkForce training takes approximately one hour to complete; Leader training takes approximately two hours.
HHS Office of Civil Rights’ (OCR) Phase 2 of the HIPAA Audit Program is scheduled to begin with desk audits for business associates on November 2016. OCR is randomly selecting business associates from a pool of 20,000, compiled primarily from lists submitted by the 167 covered entities currently in the audit process. HHS has stated that annual training of all staff is a key requirement for all health insurance agency’s compliance plans.
